CASE STUDY
SOLIDARITY
IN SISTERHOOD
Future Female Society, a Suffolk-based organisation, seeking to raise the confidence and aspirations of girls and women across the county.
The Ask
While Future Female Society runs a number of programmes and initiatives to serve women and girls, there was a specific requirement for which it was seeking funding from The Kerrison Trust.
Eager to target 12 to 19 year olds with a dynamic programme shaped around using media, FFS wanted to launch Girls Where You At.
This 10 week initiative would enable girls to learn skills in radio and music production, in performance, animation and so much more.
The Full Story
Kim Trotter, the passionate founder and CEO of FFS had always been ready to hustle, to bang on doors and to state – over and over again if necessary – the urgent need for support of her fledgling charity.
She has long been a champion for women and girls, and wanted so much to create a charity which could facilitate hope, opportunity and confidence….all of which fits perfectly with the mantra of The Kerrison Trust.
The Impact
“The fact we secured funding was a real lifeline to us. We were determined to create the programme and we knew what an impact it could have for young girls who are often quite vulnerable or have no sense of security.
“The Trust has funded us multiple times now, which has meant that we could extend our work through the development of a fabulous partnership with the charity Volunteering Matters.
“As a result of that, some of our girls have taken part in a Youth Leadership Award, and have even delivered a panel discussion at an event to mark International Women’s Day.
“I really can’t thank The Kerrison Trust enough for believing in my vision and continuing to show their support.
“It’s not at all easy to get funding for youth programmes at the moment, so receiving support from an organisation which is locally based and has an ethos in providing opportunities and support for young people – it’s brilliant.”
The Voice of Kerrison Trust
“Kim and her team are doing such great work for young girls and women, and we really felt they were a deserving cause to commit to.
“We recognise what a challenge it is for small not-for-profits to raise the initial funding they might need, often to deliver some of the most impactful programmes and initiatives, so it’s a real blessing to be able to support that work.
“Seeing how far the Girls Where You At programme has come in the last few years, has been wonderful to witness.
“Future Female Society deserves so much praise for the way in which they’ve supported youngsters in gaining confidence and increasing their aspirations.
“They’re a perfect example of the kind of organisation we seek to support.”
– Diane Cook, Trustee of Kerrison Trust
“I knew exactly what I wanted to create with the Girls Where You At programme, and I’d got so much in place as a result of my background in teaching media and presenting at BBC Radio Suffolk.
“What I needed was the funding to make the whole concept come to life, and that’s when Jim Brown, from Suffolk County Council, suggested The Kerrison Trust.
“When I found out a little bit more about the organisation I recognised that their core roots were quite aligned, so I made an application, and we had a visit.”
