CASE STUDY

WHAT OPEN ROAD DO

Open provide alternative training facilities for disadvantaged, vulnerable and excluded young people, using motor vehicles and construction as a means of capturing their interest. It’s a learning environment where young people want to be rather than have to be, where they learn practical vocational skills in a dedicated workshop and training facility.

How we helped
The Kerrison Trust provided a grant for the purchase of new equipment for construction or mechanic training.

“The most recent grant we were awarded has been used to engage a Construction Workshop Assistant, who originally came to us through the Community Payback Team. Having completed his time with them he now works for us for one day a week to impart his construction skills and knowledge to our young people. He has a very strong work ethic and is very good with the students.”

Martin Slater, Managing Director, Open Road West Norfolk Trust

“D has come a long way since attending Open Road. We all feel your provision has been the making of him…He feels more confident about the future and the path he will be taking. On a 1-to-1 basis he’s a delight and his social skills have improved dramatically.”
